The Recent WTA Finals Review Was Published This Weekend

After suffering an injury during Friday’s Paris Masters match with Holger Luna, No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz sent his teammate into the semifinals.

Alcaraz withdrew at 6-5 in the 2nd set overtime after winning the first set 6-3 and Lune leading 3-1. Alcaraz had been treated for a sprained abdomen. Prior to making his first appearance at the ATP final, which gets underway on November 13, Alcaraz hopes to fully recover.

The Auger-Aliassime match

In a match from the Swiss finals in Basel, the best player on the tour, Felix Auger-Aliassime, will face the Danish teenager Loon. Francis Tiafoe was defeated 6-1, 6-4 by Auger-Aliassime, who increased his winning streak to 16 games. Although the 22-year-old struggled in the opening set, he dug deep and kept his serve, saving 5 goals. The 93rd minute attempts prevailed.

In the semifinals, Novak Djokovic faced Stefanos Tsitsipas after defeating Italian teenager L. Musetti. The latter received the first 24-minute bagel from Djokovic, with just eight points lost. In order to complete the victory, the defensive title-holder defeated a short swing in the 2nd part of the game and quickly bounced back from the breakdown.

In the WTA semifinals, Sobolenko will take on Sakkari

In Fort Worth, Alina Sobolenko defeated Jessica Pegula 6-3, 7-5 to progress to the semifinals of the final WTA tournament. The match got off to a brilliant start for Sobolenko when she promptly defeated her opponent to retake the lead, 5-2. Despite Sobolenko’s collapse in the following game, which effectively ended the match and the chances of making it to the bottom four, Pegula recovered on the next straight, stealing four set points.

Prior to Sabolenko making a team break on the serve in the 7th match, Pegula fought back to tie the match at two sets apiece. Pegula faltered once more to force a tie, but Sobolenko came up with the backhand in game 12 to steal the victory and set up a tie-break. Iga Swiatek, the leader of the opposing team, will face Koko Gauff, the underdog.
