Italy’s Youth Shows Off on the International Volleyball Scene

The future of the Italian volleyball national team seems to be quite good. The U20 Men’s squad managed to get the 6th gold medal for the Italian youth in 2022 which is something that solidifies the position of the nation as the best competitor in volleyball. It is a huge achievement and a big promise that the Italian national squad will be contending for top spots during all international competitions.

An achievement that will stand the test of time

U20 Men’s was quite strong in their showings and managed to beat the Polish team in the final quite convincingly going to overtime only once and finishing the game 3-2 in a series of very intense games. The nation is now the only one with 6 gold medals won by youth teams. In 2022, the nation’s U18 and U22 Men, U17, U19, and U21 Women brought home their gold medals and prepared a nice foundation for the U20 Men to strongly fortify the nation’s position in Europe.

This feat will unlikely be beaten in the nearest future with Italy trying its hardest to prevent other nations from doing so. With U18 Men and U17 Women wins, the nation has a whole cohort of up-and-coming athletes that will take the mantle of U20 teams. It seems that the country will be victorious more often than not for at least 5 years until this generation of youth completely move on to their professional careers.

The match allowed many stars to show off

The true joy for many fans and volleyball enthusiasts in Italy is that the team led by Matteo Battocchio seems to be not only well-organized but also packed with talent. Alessandro Bovolenta, the son of Vigor Bovolenta who played in the national Italian squad in multiple tournaments and won the CEV EuroVolley in 1995, played more than just superbly and managed to earn 20 points for the team.

Luca Porro is a promising young player eyed by many scouts and had a great showing by serving 6 strong aces. We hope to see these players next year defending the pride of the U21 Men’s national team!
