Eric Kay Was Sentenced to 22 Years in Federal Prison for Causing Tyler Skaggs’s Death

The tragedy for the whole of Major League Baseball turned out to be more than just a tragic coincidence. It may have been malice. While we won’t know the full truth behind the death of Tyler Skaggs, it seems that the one responsible for supplying the MLB player with drugs is now punished quite severely. Eric Kay was found guilty and sentenced to 22 years in federal prison.

Eric Kay deserved his sentence

The former employee of the Los Angeles Angels team was quite rude toward not only jurors and prosecutors, but also the family of Skaggs and the player himself. He used derogatory language when talking with and about these people after being convicted in February. It seems that Kay did not feel any guilt for supplying Skaggs with dangerous drugs.

Skaggs was found dead in a bedroom of a hotel in Dallas on the day of his scheduled match against Texas Rangers that was supposed to be played on July 1, 2019. The coroner painted a very bleak picture of the death of Skaggs who choked on his vomit. The blood analysis showed that the MLB player had a high dose of alcohol, fentanyl, and oxycodone in his body. Despite being a professional athlete, he had some really bad habits, but there was someone who facilitated them.

Eric Kay was the baddest actor in this ordeal. The prosecution proved that Kay was able to obtain oxycodone from various sources during the period between 2017 and 2019. He sold drugs to players of the Los Angeles Angels. One of his regular buyers was Skaggs. Kay also used drugs himself and promoted them to MLB players. Multiple testimonies from other players proved that he tried to sell drugs to players of other teams as well.

22 years is no joke

Kay feared the day when the sentence would be revealed. Now, we know why. 22 years for distributing drugs may sound like a very harsh punishment. However, his work as a distributor led to the death of a young MLB player which should be a factor in making his crime more severe.
